Rock testing causing cracks in power station?

CHAMOLI: Rock testing being carried out under the Devsari Hydro-Power Project has resulted in several cracks emerging in the 33 KV Power Station at Nandkesri.
According to Engineer DP Khanduri, the rock testing was being carried out below the Power Station by the undertaking agencies Satluj Hydro-Power Corporation, which had caused cracks in the power station as well as its adjacent buildings. Khanduri disclosed that a letter had been written to the Corporation and the SDM, Tharali, in this regard.
On the other hand, General Manager, Satluj Hydro-Power Corporation, Shankarnarainan totally rubbished the possibility of cracks being caused by rock testing. He maintained that controlled blasts were carried out while rock testing. He asserted that the rock testing was of small perimeter and intensity and there was no possibility of cracks being caused by it.
In the meanwhile, local people have vehemently opposed the rock testing for the fear that the buildings of the area might suffer further cracks.
