Workshop on ‘Saakshar Bharat’

Dehradun: “The Saakshar Bharat programme is not the Government of India’s alone, it is our programme and we all have to work as a strong team to achieve the goals of reducing gender disparity and achieving 80% literacy by 2012,” said Jagmohan Singh Raju, Joint Secretary and Director General, National Literacy Mission, speaking on the occasion of a day long “State level orientation workshop on Saakshar Bharat”, organised in collaboration with the State Literacy Mission Authority (SLMA) and State Resource Centre for Adult Education at the RLEK auditorium, here, today. The objective of this workshop was to discuss the state action plan and the implementation strategies for different stakeholders in the five districts of Uttarakhand, Tehri, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Champawat and Bageshwar where the literacy rates are below 50%.
