Villagers threaten gherao of CM

Nainital : Ram Singh Kaira, a former District Board member and Congress leader told media persons that he, along with the villagers of Okhalkanda, would gherao the Chief Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, to press the demands for road connectivity, degree college and granting status of Tehsil to Okhalkanda Block during his visit to Haldwani on 22 February.
The Mornaula-Majhera road links Okalkanda with the rest of Kumaon and roads have been constructed from both ends, but due to some forest land which lies in between, the work has been held up. This needed to be expedited in the interest of the public, said Kaira. If the state government had pursued the matter with sincerity, permission from the Union Government, Ministry of Forests and Environment could have been obtained by now, alleged Kaira. The opening of a degree college in the block and granting status of Tehsil to Okhalkanda were the other demands.
